Option1: Stay in Standard Tuning, Capo 2nd Fret on thinnest 5 Strings. I suggest playing this song with a capo (2nd fret) across the thinnest 5 strings only, while keeping the strings tuned to standard tuning (EADGBe). This lets you play a D chord using all six strings, while also playing the G chord like you normally would. Best of both worlds! Bytuning down, you free up additional frets on the fingerboard. Of course, that is not important if you don't play up there. By down tuning, you make it a bit harder to play with others unless you use that capo all the time. Of course, that is not important if you only play by yourself. Going one step down means you will be "off" in comparison

Its well worth tuning to his CGCFCE to get the sound of this tune, adding a capo on the 2nd fret. If you can play a full barre, it's reasonably easy in this tuning. The opening chord is all open strings except for the third string, 2nd fret. This 2nd-fret finger then skips onto the fourth string and then the fifth.
